    California beats Santa Ana

    Santa Ana vs. California recap

    Special to OCVarsity.com

WHITTIER- California High's running back tandem of Jasper Meza and Matt Urquiza combined for 246 total yards to lead the Condors by Santa Ana, 27-0, on Friday night in the opening round of the Southeast Division Playoffs.

The Saints (5-6) could not contain the California offense, which had nine runs of 10 or more yards, and three of quarterback Cameron Zaharioudakis's four completions went for more than 20 yards.

On its first drive, Santa Ana moved the ball into Condors territory, but the drive came to a halt when Chris Ledesma was intercepted by Drew Harris at the California 44. Urquiza capped off the ensuing drive with a 1-yard TD run.

Saints running back Adam Salinas rushed for 129 yards on 29 carries. Salinas kept the Santa Ana offense on the field for a majority of the game, rushing for seven of the Saints' 10 first downs.

"Our offense moved the ball well tonight," Saints coach Scott Daniels said. "But we played the whole game in between the 30s."

California (10-1) will go on to play the winner of the South El Monte-Sonora game next week in the quarterfinals.
