Capo Valley rolls to victory
Quarterback Parker Finley threw three touchdowns and ran for another as Capistrano Valley defeated Northwood, 35-14, in a nonleague game at Irvine High.
The passing touchdowns were the first of the year for the Cougars (3-0).
Capistrano Valley averaged 247.5 rushing yards in its first two games, but with nine Northwood defenders near the line of scrimmage on nearly every play, the Cougars went to the air on Thursday.
“We were actually throwing to set up the run instead of running to set up the pass,” Cougars coach Chi Chi Biehn said. “Parker had a good night.”
Finley was at his best on the last two plays of the first half. After Northwood (0-4) scored to tie it at 14, Finley completed two consecutive passes in the final nine seconds, including an 18-yard strike to Lee Casas as time expired to put the Cougars up for good.
Tyler Andrews led Capistrano Valley’s defense with a fumble return for a touchdown and an interception.Contact the writer: preps@ocregister.com
