El Dorado defense downs Dana Hills

    The Orange County Register

An amazing defensive effort by Anthony Laurenzi helped El Dorado spoil the home opener for Dana Hills.

Laurenzi led a tenacious defensive effort with five of the team's seven sacks, as the Golden Hawks (1-1) shut out the Dolphins (0-2), 10-0, at Dana Hills High School.

"Our defense worked real hard tonight," Laurenzi said. "This win gives us a lot of confidence and momentum for next week."

The first half evolved into a hard-hitting defensive battle as both teams dished out several punishing hits. Laurenzi dominated the Dolphins' offensive line by recording four first-half sacks and pressuring the quarterback on several other plays.

The Golden Hawks finally broke through late in the third quarter when quarterback Kane Wilson hit tight end Nolan Sheldon down the left sideline to the Dolphins' 1-yard line. Running back Devin Deleon powered in on the next play to give the Golden Hawks a 7-0 lead with 38 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The Golden Hawks' power running game helped put the game away in the fourth quarter. Deleon's 52 yard scamper helped set up a 27-yard field goal by Chase Lansford to increase the Golden Hawks' lead to 10-0 with just over seven minutes to play.

The Dolphins' final shot at a comeback ended with just under four minutes to play when Dana Hills quarterback Sean Schroeder's final pass of the game was intercepted by Sheldon.
