The Boras Classic has two excellent semifinals matchups. The Ryan Lemmon Invitational has a heck of a championship game. No Orange County teams are in the National Classic championship game.
Mater Dei plays host to Huntington Beach in one Boras semifinal today. Two state top 5 teams, JSerra and Alemany, play at the other semi today at JSerra. JSerra is No. 2 in CalHiSports.com’s California top 20, and Alemany is No. 5.
Huntington Beach rallied to beat Aliso Niguel on Wednesday.
In another Boras game today, Aliso Niguel plays Long Beach Wilson at Mater Dei at noon.
Marina plays Long Beach Millikan in the Lemmon Invitational championship game today at 6:15 p.m. at Windrow Park in Irvine. Also today in the Lemmon tournament (all at Windrow): Brea vs. Woodbridge, 9 a.m.; Pacifica vs. Irvine, 9:15 a.m.; El Modena vs. San Juan Hills, 12:15 p.m.; and Laguna Beach vs. Tustin, 6 p.m.
Cypress was the only county team to get to the National Classic semifinals. The Centurions lost to IMG Academy of Florida, 2-1, in a semi Wednesday. It will be IMG against Agoura in the championship game today at Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m.
Cypress plays state No. 20 Monte Vista of Danville in the third-place game at El Dorado at 1 p.m. today. Christian Brothers plays De La Salle in the consolation championship game today at 4 p.m. at Cal State Fullerton.
Expect to pay for admission to some of the aforementioned games and other tournament games. Tournaments can be important fundraising devices for baseball programs.
