Aside from the high concentration of teams placed in Division 1, most of the county’s teams are scattered throughout different divisions.

So we’ll touch on the rest of them in this blog post.

Team in prime position for a title

Sunny Hills is the top seed in Divsion 2, and has made the championship game the past two seasons. Each of those campaigns ended in title game losses, though. This season, the Lancers bring a formidable defense and a stellar goalkeeper, Amanda Poertner, who has posted a school record 23 shutouts this season. Sunny Hills will possibly face tough competition from the likes of Chino Hills and West Torrance.

Wild-card games

Saddleback vs. Don Lugo of Chino, Division 4; Sage Hills vs. Palm Desert, Division 5; St. Margaret’s vs. Desert of Edwards Air Force Base, Division 5; Westminster at Nogales of La Puente in Division 6. All games will be played on Wednesday.

Best first-round matchup

Katella was the top representative from the Orange League in Division 6, and in the first round it’ll take on Garden Grove, who finished third in the Garden Grove League behind Los Amigos and Santiago.

Matchup I’d like to see

Troy vs. Chino Hills in the second round of Division 2. The Warriors have played top-seeded Sunny Hills well this season. They dropped a 1-0 game in the first meeting, and were about 30 seconds away from beating the Lancers in a 1-1 tie last week. Troy has given up three goals in the last month, and has the defense and goalkeeping with Katelyn Carter to give the Huskies a challenge.

Dark horse team

Cypress in Division 3. Like Santa Margarita in Division 1, the Centurions might not have to play another first-place team until the quarterfinals or semifinals. That’s crucial when you have to win five games to claim a championship.

Predictions

Sunny Hills will make the Division 2 championship game again, and will play Santiago/Corona. This time the title game will have a different ending for the Lancers, as their stout defense will carry them to a Division 2 crown.
