UCLA sophomore water polo player Rachel Fattal (Los Alamitos) has been nominated for the Sullivan Award, which annually honors the top amateur athletes.
Fattal was selected the MPSF Rookie of the Year last season and later played for the junior and senior national teams at World Championships. She was selected MVP of the FINA Junior World Championships after helping Team USA claim the gold medal.
Fans can vote for Fattal through March 23 at 9 p.m. Pacific time. The winner is announced April 11. The public voting accounts for one-third of the athletes’ overall score. Fattal’s toughest competition for the award could be swimmer Katie Ledecky.
Fattal was the county’s first two-time girls water polo player of the year. She also played volleyball and swam at Los Alamitos.
