Here are my predictions for the Division 2 first round matches involving county teams.
West Torrance at Sunny Hills: The Warriors will represent the Bay League and advanced to the first round with a 1-0 win over Murrieta Valley in a wild card match on Tuesday. Overall, the won four their 10 league matches. The Lancers are the top ranked team in Division 2 and have not lost a match since losing their very first match of the season to Godinez. They have won 20 during their streak of 25 unbeaten matches. A tough nonleague schedule was meant to prepare the Lancers for the postseason and I expect them to begin their journey back to the Division 2 title match with a home victory.
Winner: Sunny Hills
Buena at Troy: The Bulldogs were the third place finisher in the Channel League, winning four of their eight league matches and finishing two points behind league champion Santa Barbara. The Warriors produced 20 wins during the regular season and went 7-2-1 for the second straight season in Freeway League play. Troy will look to avoid a first round defeat for the second straight season and getting their offense back should be the difference. The Warriors were shutout by Sunny Hills twice in league, while they scored at least two goals in every other match. Buena is a team that battles hard, but I expect the Warriors offense to help them emerge victorious.
La Habra at Great Oak: The Highlanders quietly produced a strong Freeway League campaign. After losing their first two matches, they won seven of their final eight and finished only one point behind Troy for second place. La Habra scored two or more goals in eight league matches this season. They will take that hot streak on the road for a match-up against the Wolfpac. Great Oak won the Southwestern league with an 8-0-2 mark. Their offense has been tough down the stretch, as they have scored three or more goals in five of their last six matches. This has the makings of a match with several goals being scored. I will go with the host Wolfpac.
