CIF-SS FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: SOUTHERN DIVISION

SECOND ROUND

CORONA DEL MAR (9-2) VS. LOS AMIGOS (8-3)

Site, time: Bolsa Grande High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: The top-seeded Sea Kings, who are the defending Southern Division champions, bring a seven-game winning streak into this quarterfinal matchup. Quarterback Cayman Carter passed for 280 yards and two TDs and sophomore running back Cole Martin had nine catches for 147 yards and one TD in CdM's 35-0 victory over Anaheim in the first round.

The Lobos, who took second place in the Garden Grove League, have a four-game winning streak, Running back Jerry Saldivar, who leads the county with 2,122 yards and 26 TDs on 262 carries, rushed for 223 yards and three TDs in Los Amigos' 41-14 upset over Estancia in the first round.

KATELLA (9-2) VS. WOODBRIDGE (6-5)

Site, time: Irvine High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: The fourth-seeded Knights have been making a lot of history this season. They won their first Orange League title since 1967 and last week they defeated Godinez, 44-7, for their first playoff victory since 1998.

Katella has been doing it with defense and it's rushing attack, which is led by junior running back T.J. Ashmeade, who has rushed for a school-record 1,670 yards and 17 TDs. Katella's defense is led by Joseph Inda, a linebacker who transferred from Centennial of Corona.

Woodbridge, which took third place in the Pacific Coast League, is a live underdog that is in the quarterfinals for the second straight season.

The Warriors also have a big-time running back in junior Austin DeFreitas, who is third in the county in rushing with 1,937 yards and 18 TDs.

SEGERSTROM (9-2) VS. GARDEN GROVE (9-2)

Site, time: Garden Grove High, Friday, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: The third-seeded Argos, who won the Garden Grove League title, won the Southern Division title in 2010 and they bring a six-game winning streak into this quarterfinal matchup.

Garden Grove has been averaging 51.3 points per game and has recorded four shutouts during its winning streak. The Jaguars, who are in the quarterfinals for the fourth consecutive season, have never been beyond the quarterfinals in their seven-year history.

Segerstrom's wing-T offense, which averages 350.7 rushing yards oer game, is led by running backs David Perkins (159 car., 1,657 yards, 23 TDs) and Sonny Roa (91 car., 991 yards, 15 TDs).

NORTHWOOD (5-6) VS. LAGUNA BEACH (10-0-1)

Site, time: Laguna Beach High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook:The second-seeded Breakers, who won the Orange Coast League title, are trying to get to the semifinals for the second straight

season. RB Drake Martinez (30 TDs), WR Robert Clemons III (16 TDs) and RB Nathan Lancaster (18 TDs) are explosive players that are capable of scoring whenever they touch the ball.

Laguna Beach has 12 kick and punt returns for TDs and and a total of 17 returns for TDs in all.

Northwood took second place in the highly-competitive Pacific Coast League, which makes the Timberwolves a live underdog.

Northwood QB Kevin Norman is one of those mobile quarterbacks that can do damage running the ball and through the air. He has rushed for 795 yards and 14 TDs and he has passed for 1,404 yards and 19 TDs.
