Outlook: Mission Viejo skipped to an 84-22 victory over Aliso Niguel last week. Aliso was 4-0. The Diablos' opponent this week is, as you see, 1-2. Many people, especially those who complain about the county top 10, don't look beyond the records and into strength of schedule.
Redlands East Valley has take on some fine teams. The Wildcats opened the season with a 36-0 victory over Dominguez. They lost their next two games, but check out the teams they played: St. Bonaventure of Ventura, which is ranked No. 9 in California, which beat REV, 18-7; and Vista Murrieta, No. 3 in the state, which beat REV 59-14.
The Wildcats might be the best team Mission Viejo has played so far. Mission is averaging 52 points a game, and really might just now be getting tight. Transfers occupy many key offensive positions, and it can take some time to get new players into lockstep with everyone else in an offense as intricate as Mission's.
It's not going to be a 62-point victory, but expect Mission Viejo to be 6-0 when goes into its bye week and prepared to play a South Coast League opener Oct. 12 at San Clemente.
