Football: Calhoun's final take on Week 4

Let the record show: I never had any doubt that Ocean View would pull out the victory and return my Iron Mike Bison doll. That's right, I dealt Carlos "Loco" Arias another defeat in the OCVarsity Deathmatch Challenge. I think he should retire.

I'm going out on top. Anybody else willing to step up and challenge Arias, email him at carias@ocregister.com. It is an easy victory, because he's going to pick the wrong team.

Now, let's go look at week 4.

Moving and Shaking

The top 10 could have a new look this week. Servite didn't look good at all. The Friars dropped to 1-3 and could be headed out of the top 10. Servite suffered a 42-0 loss to Bishop Gorman.

No. 8 San Clemente also fell, losing to Newport Harbor 28-7.

Both teams could be headed out of the top 10, but then the questions remain ... who should replace them?

Santa Margarita

The Eagles finally got a test and they passed it, knocking off St. Bonaventure, 35-27. Can anyone in the Trinity league cause the Eagles problems?

I don't think Mater Dei is where it can be right now.

St. John Bosco had a bye week. Maybe some of the staff went to Saddleback College to get a good glimpse of the Eagles.

Orange Lutheran is the X-Factor. Can the Lancers have success running the option in the Trinity League.

JSerra is off to another good nonleague start. How many league victories can the Lions get and can Servite rebound? The Trinity League start is still a couple of weeks away ... I can't wait.

Mission Viejo

Any team that score 84 points should concern everyone. If I'm scheduled to play the Diablos, I'm scared.

El Toro

Then there is El Toro. Conner Manning turned in another ridiculous game, passing for 600 yards and seven touchdowns.

Edison

Despite the loss to Mater Dei, Edison is still a team to watch. The Chargers turned in another good defensive performance. Offensively, there are still some things to work on. You have to make Edison the favorite going into the Sunset League.

Newport Harbor

I thought Edison was the clear-cut, no doubt about it winner of the Sunset League title, but Newport Harbor is rapidly improving.

The Sailors dropped their first two games, but rallied to defeat CdM and then pulled off the 28-7 upset victory over San Clemente. The Sailors have Mira Costa next week and then the opening game against Edison. Keep an eye on the Sailors.

That's it for abbreviated Final Take ... I have to get to Edison for a girls volleyball tournament.
