Former Canyon standout water polo player Courtney Mathewson scored a game-high three goals to help the U.S. national team defeat reigning FINA World Champion Greece, 12-9, at the Holiday Cup on Friday night at the Joint Forces Training Base.

Team USA scored the final four goals of the match to power into Saturday's 6 p.m. semifinals - also against Greece. Mathewson and former Laguna Beach star Annika Dries scored in the 4-0 run in the final period.

Corona del Mar product Tumua Anae collected eight saves.
