SATURDAY'S CIF BOYS WATER POLO FINALS

At William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, Irvine

Division 2

CORONA DEL MAR (24-6) VS. LONG BEACH WILSON (20-10), 2 p.m. (note adjusted time)

Outlook: Two of the Southern Section's most decorated Division 1 schools clash for the Division 2 crown this time. Corona del Mar's legacy includes nine Division 1 championships while Long Beach Wilson has claimed 11 Division 1 titles. But the two teams have established a Division 2 rivalry this fall.

The top-seeded and defending Division 2 champion Sea Kings defeated the No. 3 seeded Bruins twice in overtime. Corona del Mar won an early-season nonleague game, 10-7, and a quarterfinal match at the S & R Sport Cup, 11-10, in early October. The Bruins scored four goals in the fourth period at the S & R to force overtime. Corona del Mar senior center Ben Zepfel has netted eight goals against the Bruins this season and leads the Sea Kings with 79 goals. After Zepfel, Corona del Mar's scoring is spread out on a deep and fast roster. A.J. Santa Maria has 206 saves in goal for the Sea Kings.

Long Beach Wilson features Jackson Kimbell, son of two-time Olympian Doug Kimbell (Villa Park). The junior has eight goals the past two games. The Bruins have a strong counterattack and talented perimeter shooters. Nick Hoy, a 6-foot-4 senior, is the goalie.

Corona del Mar is 19-0 all-time in the Division 2 playoffs. Long Beach Wilson was placed in Division 2 for the first time in 2008 and is 7-3 in the playoffs.

The teams have played twice for a Division 1 title. The Bruins won each time: 2002 (14-11) and 1994 (10-9).

This match will be shown live on foxsportswest.com Greg Mescall of USA Water Polo and Olympic silver medalist goalie Merrill Moses will be on the call.
