Notebook: Brea Olinda water polo coach dismissed
Magnolia's Anderson selected state's Division III girls basketball coach of the year.
Brea Olinda has relieved boys and girls water polo coach Sean Harren of his duties, principal Jerry Halpin confirmed Thursday.
Harren guided Brea Olinda's girls team to a 22-8 record this past season and an appearance in the CIF-SS Division II playoffs. The Wildcats lost in the first round to eventual semifinalist Laguna Beach. (Click here to see the girls team's record)
Halpin said Harren was asked to resign but decided not to do so.
“After a postseason meeting, we decided to go in another direction with both programs,” Halpin wrote in an e-mail.
“Coach Harren did a wonderful job for us the past three seasons and the teams were very successful. We hope to continue that success.”
Brea Olinda's boys finished 18-11 in the fall and lost in the first round of the Division II playoffs to Arlington of Riverside. (Click here to see the boys team's record)
Harren has been one of the most successful water polo coaches in Southern California. He guided the Rowland boys to six CIF-SS Division VI titles, including four in a row from 1997-2000.
Harren said he is unsure of his coaching future.
