Saddleback claims share of Golden West volleyball title

Brandon Tanielu had a season-high 30 kills and Julio Aguilar added 11 kills as host Saddleback edged Segerstrom, 25-19, 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 15-9, in a Golden West League boys volleyball game on Wednesday to secure at share of the league title with Santa Ana.

Branden Chantharath had 10 kills for the Roadrunners (13-3, 8-2), who clinched at a least a share of the title for the second straight season.

Segerstrom, which dropped to 7-2 in league, had a chance to win the league title outright but now must beat Ocean View to earn a three-way tie for first place and a share of the league title.

Also in the Golden West League:

Santa Ana 3, Westminster 0: James Castro had nine kills and Lino Berumen added eight kills as the host Saints (18-3, 8-2) swept the Lions, 25-23, 25-9, 25-22, to earn a share of the league title.

In the Trinity League:

Santa Margarita 3, St. John Bosco 0: Tanner Jansen had 11 kills to lift the host Eagles (29-5, 8-0) past the Braves, 25-15, 25-21, 25-19.

Mater Dei 3, Servite 0: The visiting Monarchs (19-9, 8-2) claimed a 25-19, 25-13, 25-14 victory against the Friars.
