Santa Margarita took the lead in the race for the Trinity League boys golf title by handing No. 2 Servite its first loss of the year, 188-192, Wednesday at Western Hills.

Team captain Robert DeHuff shared medalist honors with teammates Diwen Chen and Nick Roux as all three players shot a 1-over-par 36 for the No. 5 Eagles (9-2).

The Eagles and Friars meet again later this month at the Eagles' home course.

Last season, the Eagles topped Servite by a stroke in their CIF championship tournament — a result the Friars protested. Servite turned in a scorecard that was good enough to defeat Santa Margarita by one shot, but tournament officials penalized Servite two strokes, because they said a Servite player had failed to properly penalize himself during the round. Both teams advanced to the SoCal championships, but neither reached the state finals.

In Wednesday's match, Nolan Clark shot a 39 and Kevin DeHuff posted a 41 for Santa Margarita.
