MISSION VIEJO With each victorious effort, Mission Viejo junior James Cameron is validating his claim as the state's best 1,600-meter runner.
Cameron won his individual heat and finished with the top overall time of the day at the CIF Southern Section prelims Saturday at Trabuco Hills High.
“I wanted to run comfortably today and go out for the win,” said Cameron, who finished in a time of 4:14.79. “I've been training real hard this season and it has paid off.”
Cameron, who is the top-ranked 1,600 runner in the state, was in a tight battle with Trabuco Hills senior Scott Blair through the first three laps but found an extra burst over the final lap.
