League preliminaries begin throughout the county today, and league finals are scheduled for Friday. Among the many enticing team battles, here are two to keep an eye on:

Trinity League (Boys): Servite, Orange Lutheran, Mater Dei and Santa Margarita each will look to stake a claim to the league title. Servite senior Trent Perez is the favorite in three events.

Junior Brendon Confer (800, 1,600) and senior Mike Villasin (800) will lead the distance effort, while the Friars will look to pick up points from senior Nick Masterson and junior Eric Simms in the pole vault.

The Lancers are led in the sprints by sophomore Damani Wilson, who was the top qualifier in the 100, and junior Kyle Dravis, who was the second best qualifier in last week's prelims in both the 200 and 400.

Senior Blake Ayles (discus and shot put) is expected to head the field effort. Monarchs senior Louie Gallardo III (800) and junior Nick Constantini (300 hurdles) were the top qualifiers in the prelims, while a trio of pole vaulters, headed by county-leading sophomore Michael Woepse will look to garner points. Senior Carlo Valdes (discus) is also a favorite to score. Junior Gus Berga (100, 200), and seniors Jonathan Telles (800) and Brent Prevatil (300 hurdles) lead the Eagles.

Prediction: All four teams will battle throughout the final, but the Friars should prevail in a close decision.

Sea View League (Girls): A solid three-team battle here, as Trabuco Hills, Woodbridge and El Toro should decide the champion.

The Mustangs, who have defeated both teams in dual meets this season, will be led by versatile senior Monica Todd (long jump, triple jump and hurdles).

The Mustangs will also look for points in the distances from senior Kristen Arkin and junior Sabrina Rathor.

The Warriors will turn to Christine Babcock to guide them, with senior Kyle Wolff and freshman Gabrielle Scott contributing in the 400. Junior Jessica Bragg (hurdles) and senior Christina Kim (shot put) head the Chargers' efforts.

Prediction: Each team will claim individual victories, but the overall depth of the Mustangs will lead them to the title.
