Softball playoffs: Tesoro powers its way past Canyon

Nicole Lund slugged a home run and had three RBIs to help Tesoro knock off Canyon, 9-1, in the first round of the CIF-SS Division II softball playoffs on Friday at Canyon High.

Sam Pappas allowed four hits, four walks and struck out 11. Tesoro got 11 hits off Canyon’s freshman ace, Cheyanne Tarango.

Tesoro (16-8-1) plays Pacifica in the second round Tuesday.

In other Division II games:

Garden Grove 1, Kaiser of Fontana 0 (11 innings):
Briana Williams drove in Kathryn Hermann with a two-out single as the Argonauts (18-12) pulled out a victory over the host Cats (18-9). Caitlin Bradac went the distance, allowing four hits and striking out 18 to record the shutout.

Mission Viejo 3, Palos Verdes 0: Pacific-bound Michelle Tait hit a solo homer in the third and a Tory Speer had solo blasts in the fourth and sixth to help the Diablos (23-6-1) knock off the visiting Sea Kings (15-12). Tait also tossed a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts to record the shutout.

El Modena 3, Chaffey 2: Evansville-bound Kylie Wagner delivered a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh as the Vanguards (22-8-1) rallied to beat the visiting Tigers (15-9).

Kennedy 13, El Dorado 1: Monica Aguilar went 3 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs, Elia Reid went 3 for 5 with a double, three runs and two RBIs and Jamia Reid went 2 for 5 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs as the Fighting Irish (27-3) defeated the visiting Golden Hawks (12-15).

Pacifica 7, Canyon Springs of Moreno Valley 2: UCLA-bound Andrea Harrison led off the game with a homer and the Mariners (20-10) went on to beat the host Cougars (17-11).

Vista Murrieta 5, Valencia 2: Sophomore Tatum Edwards scattered seven hits to record the complete-game victory as the Broncos (22-6) defeated the visiting Tigers (16-14).

In Division I:

Agoura 4, El Toro 2:
Allison Dorr and Christina Capobianco hit solo homers for El Toro (23-7-1), but it wasn’t enough to hold off visiting Agoura (14-12).

Mater Dei 13, Royal of Simi Valley 4: Alyssa Erickson hit a two-run homer in the second, Karina Cervantes had two hits and scored twice and Caitlin Ortiz had two hits and scored three runs as the Monarchs (21-6) pounded the visiting Highlanders (13-13).

Trabuco Hills 3, Edison 0: Sophomore Kayla Massey had a no-hitter going into the sixth, but had to settle for a one-hit shutout with 14 strikeouts to lead the Mustangs (18-11-1) past the visiting Chargers (10-17).

Esperanza 6, Orange Lutheran 3: Kailyn Johnson went 2 for 4 with two doubles, a run and two RBIs and Ashley McQueen went 2 for 3 with two doubles and one RBI as the Aztecs (21-6-2) defeated the visiting Lancers (18-14).

Rosary 2, Marina 1: Kaleigh Moses scored on Kendra McClelland’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to give the Royals (21-9) a victory over the visiting Vikings (19-10) at Clark Park.

In Division III:

Fullerton 2, Oaks Christian of Westlake Village 0:
Cal State Fullerton-bound Katey Laban threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the Indians (22-7) past the visiting Lions (13-17).

Rancho Alamitos 2, Irvine 0: Kari Gutierrez pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lift Rancho Alamitos (19-6-1) over visiting Irvine (10-15).

Beckman 2, La Habra 0: Jasmin Harrell tossed a two-hitter with no walks and nine strikeouts and she went 2 for 3 with a two-run double as the Patriots (22-6) defeated the visiting Highlanders (16-14).

Sonora 4, Oak Park 3: Katie Rooks went 3 for 4 with a run scored and Alexis Caciopo went 3 for 4 with two RBIs as the Raiders (17-11) knocked off the host Eagles (20-6).

Laguna Hills 6, Santa Fe of Santa Fe Springs 0: Lauren Lastrapes went 2 for 3 with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the fifth, as the Hawks (21-6-1) took out the visiting Chiefs (14-13).

In Division IV:

Ocean View 1, Bishop Montgomery of Torrance 0:
Arizona State-bound Nikole Afusia’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth helped the Seahawks (24-1) slip past the visiting Knights (15-14). Holli Floetker shut out Bishop Montgomery on three hits and struck out 10 to get the victory.

Savanna 13, Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks 3: Tanya Dowler went 4 for 5 with three stolen bases and four runs as the Rebels (19-9) took care of the visiting Knights (15-12).

Segerstrom 2, Ontario Christian 1: Monica Segura allowed one hit, one walk and struck out 14 to lead the Jaguars (16-9) past the visiting Knights (13-15).
