Dana Hills Tournament: All-Hands Team
Los Alamitos clearly had the best group of receivers. Darryl Jenkins, who caught 63 passes last year, looks like he could be the best receiver in the county. Paul Richardson might not be far off, but he was slowed by an ankle sprain.
The Tesoro receivers, led by Preston King, had the next best performance of any group. Brett Gudim, Zach Bevan, Justin Croskery and Jason Lockler might have dropped the fewest balls en route to the Titans’ semifinal appearance.
An athletic Mater Dei receiving core looked markedly better in the finals rounds than it did in the morning when it was dropping as many as it caught.
“They were dropping balls because they’re young,” Monarchs coach Bruce Rollinson said. “They don’t have game experience.”
Christian Maldonado was the standout of the Mater Dei group before he twisted an ankle and missed the championship game.
Rollinson took notice of the contributions of newcomers Derek Campbell and Sean Sierra.
