Pure Fan-domonium: Vote for the year's best
OCVarsity.com wants to see who the fans would pick as the top team, player and program.
Here is your chance to vote on the county's best athletes, teams and programs this school year.
Starting on Wednesday, ocvarsity.com will begin a three-week "tournament" to decide who deserves to wear the fans' crown as the "best of the best" for 2007-08.
Was the best boys athlete of the year Mater Dei quarterback Matt Barkley, Canyon guard Jerime Anderson or Newport Harbor's Kyle Caldwell? Or was it someone else?
Does the Magnolia basketball team deserve to wear the crown as the best girls team? Or should the title go to the San Clemente soccer team?
Sure, we'll hand out our awards for the athletes of the year on June 10.
But, for now, it will be up to you, the the fans, to decide. (After all, isn't it the fans who know best when it comes to high school sports?) And the fans' selections will receive a vote when we make our calls.
First, though, ocvarsity.com needs your help selecting the teams, players and programs that were the best the county had to offer this year.
Send us your nominations for each of these categories:
• Top Boys Athlete (8 will be selected)
• Top Girls Athlete (8 will be selected)
• Top Boys Team (8 will be selected)
• Top Girls Team (8 will be selected)
• Top Boys Program (8 will be selected)
• Top Girls Program (8 will be selected)
Send your nominations to preps@ocregister.com by 5 p.m. Monday (May 5). You may include a brief comment on why you think the team, player or program should be included in the tournament.
And don't forget to come back for the start of the tournament on Wednesday (May 7) so that you can vote -- and, yes, you can vote often -- for your picks.
