El Toro finds its offense in victory over Ocean View

The Chargers don't have any problem generating runs in 12-3 triumph in playoffs.

LAKE FOREST Between now and Tuesday, perhaps El Toro's baseball team can work on moving out of the way of pitched balls. Everything else seems just fine.

The Chargers scored three runs in each of the first three innings, and by the time Ocean View ace Sean Burleson took the mound to restore order, the game was out of hand. El Toro romped, 12-3, at home, setting up a second-round CIF-SS DivisionII playoff matchup with the Crescenta Valley-Temescal Canyon winner.

Junior Chad Thompson shut out Ocean View through the first four innings, and three relievers closed the game with an inning apiece. The Seahawks (14-14) did not score until their final time at bat.

El Toro shortstop Nolan Arenado and catcher Grant Anderson both went 2 for 3 with a home run, combining to drive in seven runs. Third baseman and cleanup hitter Trevor Jensen was 4 for 4 with four singles for El Toro (21-7).

“We just finally hit the ball well and saw it pretty good — obviously,” said Jensen, whose Sea View League championship team combined for just 13 runs in its previous four games.

Ocean View trailed, 9-0, when Burleson took the mound with none out in the third. The senior right-hander allowed two earned runs over four innings and went 2 for 4 hitting from the cleanup spot.

The only Seahawks breaks came after Burleson hit two batters. Neither was awarded first base because the umpire deemed they had made no effort to avoid the pitches.

“I do feel like we have a more competitive team than we showed,” Ocean View coach Shane Borowski said.
