Cole gets No. 1 Orange Lutheran back on track

Gerrit Cole struck out 11 while tossing his fourth consecutive complete-game victory to lead top-ranked Orange Lutheran past Santa Margarita, 3-1, in a Trinity League baseball game Wednesday at Santa Margarita.

Cole (6-1), a likely first-round major-league draft pick later this spring, allowed just four hits.

Pierce Bily slugged a two-run home run and had three RBIs for the Lancers (18-3, 9-1), who bounced back from an 11-0 loss to Servite this past Saturday.

Trayce Thompson smashed a solo homer in the first for the Eagles (8-14, 3-7).

Also in the Trinity League:

No. 4 Mater Dei 7, St. John Bosco 0: Aaron Northcraft (5-2) pitched five shutout innings for the Monarchs (17-5, 7-3), and Tyler Rahmatulla went 2 for 4 with a home run.

In the Sunset League:

No. 2 Los Alamitos 6, Edison 1: Matt Avery hit two home runs, driving in five runs for the Griffins (18-3, 8-2).

Kyle Simon (6-2) went the distance and gave up seven hits and one unearned run. David Compton drove in a run with a two-out double in the fourth.

In the South Coast League:

No. 6 Tesoro 5, No. 5 Aliso Niguel 3: Senior Gabe Soria hit a two-run homer and finished with three RBIs for the Titans (8-2 in league) at Tesoro.

Ben Mount (5-2) pitched the first six innings to earn the victory.

In the Sea View League:

Woodbridge 6, No. 3 El Toro 1: Senior Andrew Sharp threw a two-hitter and contribued a two-run single in the second as the Warriors (4-17, 1-9) earned their first league victory of the season.
