Servite found the answers at the plate and on the mound when it was confronted with that problematic lineup of the county's top-ranked team, Orange Lutheran, on Saturday. The Friars put together a stunning performance, outhitting and outpitching their opponent, as they upset the Lancers, 11-0, in a Trinity League game at Servite High.
Orange Lutheran (16-3, 8-1), which had a five-game winning streak snapped, had not lost to a county team since March 1, when it fell to Esperanza, 5-4. The only other team to beat the Lancers this season was Crespi of Encino, 7-2, on March 27.
Servite (9-10-1, 2-7) had battled the Lancers on Wednesday but lost, 4-2. The Friars didn't come up short Saturday.
They put together a seven-run rally in the third against Lancers starter Brandon Maurer, who entered the game 6-0. And they added two-run bursts in the fifth and sixth.
The Lancers were held to three hits by Servite's Josh White (5-0).
