Joe Silvey resigned today as football coach at Trabuco Hills.

He coached the Mustangs for one season, the 2015 season. Trabuco Hills finished 3-8 overall and tied for second place in the Sea View League with a 2-2 league record. The Mustangs lost to Corona del Mar in the first round of the CIF-Southern Section Southwest Division playoffs.

Silvey, 45, said he resigned because the time commitment required to be a head coach conflicted with his role as a husband with children.

“Instead of struggling with that and not doing anybody any good, I decided it was time to step back,” Silvey said today. “I have no intention to go anywhere else so it’s not that I’m leaving to pursue another job.”

He said he will remain at Trabuco Hills as an English teacher.

Silvey was defensive coordinator with the 2014 Trabuco Hills team that won the Southwest Division championship. He succeeded Mustangs’ ’14 head coach Tony Henney who resigned to become head coach at Westlake.

Silvey’s previous coaching experiences were as an assistant at Carlsbad and head coach at Fallbrook.
