Postgame shenanigans marred what was a wonderfully played game between Servite and Edison.
Edison was offended that Servite stuck to the pass late in the fourth quarter, after the game was well in hand. Servite head coach AJ Gass said he called for running plays, but quarterback Travis Waller improvised.
A shouting match then commenced during postgame handshakes.
Edison head coach Dave White screamed to the Servite side that someone said “I couldn’t coach.”
The seemingly accused Servite assistant coach made his way back on to the field, and had to be restrained from charging to midfield.
The Servite assistant coach was forcefully assisted off the field, while some Friars players taunted Edison’s staff.
AJ Gass wrapped his arm around Dave White, and it seemed like there was a common understanding between both head coaches.
“He (Waller) saw some mismatches and wanted to get guys the ball,” AJ Gass said. “Tempers were heated. People were disappointed, and usually they say and do things they don’t really mean.”
Servite and Edison have played each other since at least 2004, and probably well before that.
There was talk after the game that future Servite and Edison games might be off the table.
AJ Gass said he would call Dave White today and see where they stand.
