Wednesday’s CIF girls water polo semifinals

DIVISION 2

EL TORO (21-10) vs. LOS OSOS OF RANCHO CUCAMONGA (24-7)

Site, time: William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, 5 p.m.

Outlook: The second-seeded and defending champion Chargers edged Los Osos, 9-8, at the early-season Villa Park Classic. El Toro was amid a slow start but picked up its play in South Coast League victories against San Clemente. The Tritons beat Los Osos, 10-6, at the Santa Barbara TOC. El Toro is led by reigning CIF Division 2 player of the year Maddy Damato, a Princeton commit who defends 2-meters and is a capable perimeter shooter. Damato and goalie Tori Rainone anchor a defense that has allowed only four goals in two playoff victories. The Chargers’ offense is balanced with attackers Maddy Parenteau and Jessica Rodriguez and centers Dana Acquah-Asare and Haley Hagerty. Parenteau leads El Toro with 71 goals. The semifinal will pit the San Diego State-bound Parenteau against her future Aztec teammates, defender/utility Shelby Kraft and attacker Delaney Parks, of Los Osos. The 6-foot-1 Kraft was selected the Daily Bulletin’s player of the year after last season. Los Osos rides a 10-game winning streak into the semifinals. The Grizzlies, who won CIF Division 3 titles in 2013-14, haven’t lost since a 5-4 decision to top-seeded Murrieta Valley in the third-place game of the America’s Finest City Tournament. El Toro is 0-3 against Murrieta Valley, including two decisions by wide margins.
