Colin Schooler of Mission Viejo, the Register’s Orange County defensive player of the year, committed to Arizona. Schooler made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter.

Schooler, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound senior, was recruited as a linebacker. He made 77 tackles for the Diablos this past season.

Schooler was a major contributor, too, on offense as a running back. He rushed for 1,161 yards and 19 touchdowns, and averaged 12 yards a carry. Schooler had 21 receptions for 464 yards, an average of 22 yards a reception, and six touchdowns.

He was South Coast League player of the year.

The national letter-of-intent signing period for high school football players begins Feb. 1.
