A wise poet once said, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face."
OK, maybe Mike Tyson wouldn't be characterized by some people as a wise poet. But the self-proclaimed "Baddest Man on the Planet" rampaged through the heavyweight division in the 1980s long before he knocked out Zach Galafianakis in "Hangover." And that line couldn't be more true.
You better have a Plan B and a Plan C in case Plan A gets knocked out cold.
Teams should remember the wise words of Mr. Tyson heading into Thursday Night Football Madness.
Game of the night: No. 4 Santa Margarita (2-2) at No. 5 Trabuco Hills (4-0), 7 p.m.
Why you should care: Because Santa Margarita WR Kyle Sweet might be the most exciting player in the OC. Sweet is easily the most dynamic and explosive player I have seen so far this season. Sweet is a big-play machine, a touchdown maker. Santa Margarita's sophomore QB KJ Costello is best described as a gunslinger. He is going to chuck the ball around the field, looking for Sweet on the deep ball. It's fun to watch him throw it, but he will also force passes into coverage and that can lead to interceptions.
Trabuco counters with QB Tommy Kelley, who can run it and throw it. His favorite target is Jacob Breeland, a 6-6 receiver with hands and speed. You can call Breeland the OC's version of Megatron. BTW, Trabuco is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1992. That was a great year for movies. "A Few Good Men," "Wayne's World," "The Bodyguard," "Basic Instinct," and "Bram Stoker's Dracula" in 1992.
I'm expecting a high-scoring shootout tonight. Stay tuned for the updates.
ALSO ON THE THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL MADNESS AGENDA:
Garden Grove (3-0) vs. Katella (3-0) at Glover Stadium, 7 p.m.: The Argos have won two of the past three meetings against the Knights, including last year's game which they won by a field goal. Don't be surprised if Grove or Katella end up in the Southern Division title game this season.
El Modena (2-2) vs. Foothill (3-1) at Tustin High, 7 p.m.: What will Foothill LB/WR/QB Bobby Okereke do next? Last week he filled in at QB and rushed for nearly 200 yards.
Orange (3-0) vs. Calvary Chapel (2-1) at Estancia High, 7 p.m.: Can Aaron Aguilar's big-play ability help get the Panthers off to a 4-0 start?
Los Amigos (2-1) vs. Santa Ana (0-3) at Santa Ana Stadium, 7 p.m.: It looks like the Saints' winless streak will continue.
