Katie Tijerina scored the go-ahead goal with 1:38 minute left and Stephanie Gaston made a save in the closing seconds to help Rosary’s water polo team edge host Villa Park, 12-11, in a Division 1 nonleague match Friday.

Rosary led, 2-0, but the score was tied 10 times before Tijerina’s winning strike. Tijerina finished with four goals and five steals while freshman center Bayley Weber added five goals and four steals for the Royals (17-8).

Marcela Portales scored seven goals and Kelly Medina made eight saves for the Spartans (18-3).

Rosary also defeated No. 9 Santa Margarita, 12-7, this week and could return to the O.C. Top 10 on Monday.
