WEDNESDAY’S BOYS WATER POLO SEMIFINALS

DIVISION 3

LAGUNA BEACH (17-13) vs. CAPISTRANO VALLEY (19-11)

Site, time: William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center, Irvine, 3:30 p.m.

Outlook: The defending champion and No. 2 seeded Breakers won the teams’ lone meeting, 9-6, on Nov. 5, just before the end of the regular season. The score was tied, 6-6, going into the fourth period. These teams also met in the semifinals last season. Laguna Beach won, 16-7. The third-seeded Cougars are led by Austin Sechrest while the Breakers are paced by Jakob Colladay. Sechrest is fourth in the county with 136 goals, Colladay leads Laguna Beach with 76 goals. Sechrest and Colladay are two of the best seniors in the county, so they could cancel each other out, leaving the supporting casts to settle this one. Capistrano Valley last reached the finals in 1991 in Division 1. The victor plays the Murrieta Valley-Montebello winner in the Division 3 finals on Saturday.

 Albano’s prediction: Laguna Beach
