It was a satisfying first day at the Durango Fall Classic for both the Santa Margarita and Los Alamitos girls volleyball teams.

The Eagles, the top-ranked team in the county, fresh off of winning the Dave Mohs Memorial Tournament opened the two-day Las Vegas tournament with two-set sweeps of Pleasant Grove of Utah (25-22, 25-17), Bonneville of Idaho (25-21, 25-16) and Palo Verde of Las Vegas (25-5, 25-7).

Los Alamitos, ranked fourth in the county, swept McQueen of Nevada (25-14, 25-20), Flintridge Sacred Heart (35-33, 25-21) and Arbor View of Nevada (25-13, 25-10)

San Clemente (pool 5), Edison (pool 6) and Villa Park (pool 9) all finished second in their respective pools.

Laguna Beach (pool 2), Beckman (pool 7) and Newport Harbor (pool 16) finished third and Edl Dorado was fourth in pool 12

Bracket play begins Saturday morning at the four locations.
