Former Long Beach Poly coach Toby Hess was named baseball coach at Marina on Tuesday.
Hess coached Long Beach Poly for nine seasons. He was asked by Poly administration to resign at the conclusion of the 2016 season.
Hess coached the Jackrabbits to the Moore League championship in 2012, their first non-shared league championship in baseball since 1968.
Hess replaces Bob Marshall who resigned as Marina’s coach in early January. Marshall said he resigned for health reasons. Marshall was the Register’s 2016 baseball coach of the year.
