Marina has hired Tyler Middleton as its boys and girls water polo coach, replacing Tony Karaman and Phil Geiger, respectively, the Vikings’ aquatics program reports.

Middleton will also coach boys swimming at the Sunset League school.

Geiger departed for Lakewood after five successful seasons with the Vikings’ girls water polo team.

He guided Marina to a 90-48 record, including the Vikings’ first playoff berth in 10 years in 2014.

Geiger will coach boys water polo and swimming at Lakewood, where he started his coaching career.

“He had a huge impact improving the program and bringing back respectability to Marina,” the Vikings said of Geiger.

Karaman resigned after one resurgent season with the Marina boys, posting a 13-10 season behind his son, Luka, who signed with USC, and senior-to-be Leo Yuno.

Middleton also coaches with Huntington Beach Water Polo Club. He played at Murrieta Valley and Whittier College.
