Huntington Beach has hired Sasa Branisavljevic as its boys water polo coach, he confirmed moments ago.

Branisavljevic is the director of the powerful Huntington Beach-based Vanguard Water Polo Club. He replaces interim coach Chris Kaps, who filled in most of last season for Brian Anderson, who resigned.

The Oilers captured the Sunset League title and reached the CIF Division 1 semifinals under Kaps.

Here’s what Huntington Beach principal Rocky Murray said of the hire in an e-mail:

“After a highly competitive application process I am excited to announce Sasa Branisavljevic as our new Boy’s Water Polo Coach!  We look forward to Coach Branisavljevic taking our already flourishing program to the next level!  Thank you for your continued support of our aquatics programs and student athletes.  There will be more information coming shortly from Coach Branisavljevic.”

The Oilers’ hire comes are two Huntington Beach players transferred to Mater Dei but before coaching hires by Newport Harbor and Servite.
