Santa Margarita water polo player/swimmer Haley Wan and Mater Dei basketball player Stanley Johnson on Tuesday night were named Orange County athletes of the year by the O.C. athletics directors.
The Princeton-bound Wan was selected first-team All-County and CIF Division 2 player of the year in girls water polo and helped the Eagles capture the CIF Division 1 title in swimming. Wan was The Register’s player of the year in water polo as a junior and a scholar-athlete of the week as a senior.
The Arizona-bound Johnson was selected The Register’s boys basketball player of the year this past season for the state champion Monarchs.
