Captain Benjamin Gomez scored with less than a second left in regulation to help University’s boys water polo team rally past visiting and CIF-ranked Beckman, 16-15, in a Pacific Coast League match for each school Thursday.
University outscored Beckman, 6-1, in the fourth period, erasing a 14-10 deficit.
Daniel Campanaro scored seven goals to pace University’s attack. Bennett Kidder added three goals and eight assists.
Beckman entered the week ranked sixth in Division 2 while the Trojans are unranked in Division 4. On Tuesday, University plays host to Northwood, th top-ranked team in Division 4 at 4 p.m.
The Pacific Coast League has emerged as one of the county’s most competitive leagues after front-runner Corona del Mar. In another game Thursday, Irvine – unranked in Division 2 — edged Northwood, 7-6.
