Boys water polo: Ex-Mission Viejo standout out of hospital

Former Mission Viejo and Air Force standout water polo goalie David Ostrom, who is battling terminal cancer but still became a volunteer coach for the Diablos during the summer, is feeling better and has returned home after a stay at Mission Hospital, his wife, Whitney, said in a text message Friday.

Ostrom, 25, is having trouble moving, however, because of a compression fracture in his back, Whitney said.

Ostrom and his inspiring story were profiled by The Orange County Register earlier this plans to keep readers updated on his status. The story contains support websites for Ostrom, a former South Coast League and Air Force MVP who became a pilot in the Air Force.
