Makenzie Fischer (Laguna Beach) scored three goals and Courtney Mathewson (Canyon) added two to help the Rio-bound U.S. women’s water polo team defeat Italy, 11-6, in the finals of the Olympic Qualification Tournament in Gouda, Netherlands on Monday.

The reigning Olympic champions went 8-0 in the tournament and outscored opponents, 123-45.

Team USA averaged just over 15 goals per match.

Fischer, the two-time O.C. Register player of year from Laguna Beach, led the U.S. women in scoring at the tourney with 24 goals, just a few more than star attackers Kiley Neushul (18) and Maggie Steffens (17).

Ex-Corona del Mar attacker Maddie Musselman also continued her rise, finishing as the team’s No. 4 scorer with 13 goals.

And the team’s third teen and youngest player, Fischer’s sister, Aria, racked up 11 goals in her first tournament outside the United States with the senior national team. Aria is pictured above holding the team’s trophy. Steffens his holding the team’s ticket to Rio this summer.
