Tustin offensive/defensive lineman Shaquille Alapati (6-2, 320) has committed to Division II Colorado Mesa, reports Tom Giebe, the Tillers’ offensive line coach and boys athletic director.

Alapati was selected the Empire League’s lineman of the year and third-team All-County.

The senior said Colorado Mesa recruited him to play defensive tackle.

“They were the first to notice me,” Alapati said in a direct message via Twitter on Tuesday night.

Colorado Mesa, in Grand Junction, Colo., earned a share of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference title last season.

The Mavericks feature former Mater Dei offensive lineman Alex McCutcheon, who will be a junior next season.
