Troy could not sign the letter of intent until 7 a..m our time, per Letter of Intent rules, and then the Niklas family faxed it over to Notre Dame at 7:15 a.m.
Here is some of what Don Niklas had to say about his son's decision:
"Troy came back from Notre Dame on Sunday, came home and went to sleep. There is so much information they throw at you. On Monday, he woke up and was really concerned because there was so much information to process. So Troy and I talked it through on Monday, and he met with Scott Prohaska, his strength and conditioning coach to talk it over, too. Troy came home Monday night, and said he made his decision -- Notre Dame. On Tuesday, all the coaches started calling, several from USC and all the Notre Dame guys. Troy finally told USC at 8:15 last night about his decision, and it was tough. Coach (Ed) Orgeron (of USC) had become like family to us. That really made it a tough decision. Troy wanted to tell him personally because he built such a close relationship with Coach 'O'."
