Boys water polo: Northwood strikes again, upsets No. 10 Edison

Northwood's boys water polo team continued to make a case for a Top-10 ranking in Orange County by pulling another upset Thursday.

The Timberwolves' Josh Hayashi scored his lone goal with about 1:30 left in the fourth period to help his team edge No. 10 Edison, 9-8, in the first round of the South Coast Tournament at Foothill.

Michael Garas paced Northwood's offense with three goals and two steals. Jason Lee and Matt Farrell each had two while goalie Tim Shaw made 12 saves.

Earlier this season, Northwood beat another Sunset League team, then-No. 10 Los Alamitos.

Northwood plays fourth-seeded LB Wilson in the second round tonight at Foothill.
