The Mater Dei-powered Regency 18-and-under boys water polo squad captured the gold at the recent National Junior Olympics in Northern California, becoming a three-time champion of the prestigious club tournament.

Regency finished with a 7-0 record, highlighted by an 11-8 victory against Huntington Beach-powered Vanguard in the semifinals and an 11-10 triumph in the finals against Northern California’s 680 Drivers.

Regency’s roster blended Mater Dei class of 2016 products Sean Duncan, Bennie Seybold, first-team All-County pick Luke Wyatt and Will Lapkin with current Monarchs Christian HockenburyMyles Stapelberg, Kirby Slater, Wyatt Benson, goalie Billy Motherway, Jack Seybold, Warren Loth, Ian Minsterman, Cameron Reagan and Cooper Haddad.

Duncan, a center bound for Princeton, was selected tournament MVP.

Regency also claimed JO titles in 2013-14.

Harvard-Westlake-powered Los Angeles Premier defeated Vanguard, 14-10, for the bronze medal.

In other boys results, Newport Beach’s 18s captured the Classic Division with an 11-10 victory against the Inland Empire’s Elite in the final.
