Mater Dei senior cornerback Quentin Lake, who emerged over the summer as one of Orange County’s most improved players, has committed to UCLA, where his father once starred.

“With much thought I am excited to announce my commitment to the University of California Los Angeles,” Lake (6-1, 175) wrote on Twitter on Tuesday morning.

“I would like to say thanks to all the coaches not only for offering me a scholarship to their school but for seeing what a man I could be on and off the field.”

Lake is the son of former UCLA standout Carnell Lake, who became a standout defensive back with the NFL Steelers. He could emerge as the county’s top defensive backs.

At the Edison passing tournament in July, teams seemed to reluctant to challenge Lake.
