Stanford freshman swimmer Grant Shoults (Santa Margarita) captured the 500-yard freestyle in a meet-record 4 minutes, 10.67 seconds at the Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Wash. on Thursday.
The meet continues through Saturday.
Last spring, Shoults set the national high school record in the 500 free with a 4:12.87 at the CIF-SS Division 1 finals.
He went on to be selected The Register’s male athlete of the year for 2015-16.
