Mater Dei junior quarterback Matt McDonald, who began the season as the team’s starter, has withdrawn from the school, Monarchs coach Bruce Rollinson confirmed Thursday.

Rollinson said McDonald (6-3, 195) withdrew on Friday.

“We wish him a lot of luck, and at this time I do not know where he is enrolling,” Rollinson said in an e-mail.

McDonald suffered an early-season forearm injury and freshman JT Daniels went on to become a county standout.

McDonald showed promise, especially with his running ability. He rushed for 174 yards and two TDs while also passing for another 217 yards. He also played well during the offseason 7-on-7 competitions.

McDonald is the son of former USC quarterback Paul McDonald.
