Huntington Beach’s boys water polo team on Saturday night became the second O.C. squad to beat top-ranked Mater Dei this week, sinking the Monarchs, 11-6, in the finals of the North-South Challenge in Atherton.
The Oilers impressively beat the Monarchs while playing without the injured All-County senior Ethan Wojciechowski.
Orange Lutheran defeated Mater Dei, 13-11, in overtime earlier in the week in a Trinity League clash.
Corona del Mar was the first O.C. team this season to pull the feat, snapping Mater Dei’s nearly six-year undefeated streak against local squads.
