Water polo fans who attend the girls semifinals Feb. 22 at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine will be treated to a world-class bonus match.

The Olympic-bound U.S. women's team will play rival Canada at the complex at 7:45 p.m. The match is part of the FINA World League preliminaries.

Woollett will play host to the semifinals for divisions 1-4. A single admission price of $7 for adults and $5 for students will get spectators into the entire showcase, which starts at 1:45 p.m.

“We're hoping a lot of casual fans come in and see both (the high school games and U.S. match),” said Kristine Palle, an assistant commissioner with the CIF-Southern Section. “We're in such a hot-bed of water polo.”

There is a chance that a few of the semifinalist schools will see one of their alumni playing for U.S. squad. U.S. goalie Tumua Anae (Corona del Mar) and center Annika Dries (Laguna Beach) hail from schools seeded in the top-four in Division 1.

The U.S. women also play Brazil at Beckman in a FINA World League match on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.

Starting this Wednesday, the U.S. women's are playing host to European champion Italy, Canada and reigning FINA world champion Greece in the Holiday Cup at the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos. For ticket information, visit
