There will be a Celebration of the Life ceremony for for Capistrano Valley and Dana Hills basketball coach Mark Thornton on Saturday (Jan. 7) at St. Mark Presbyterian Churce in Newport Beach. The memorial service begin at 1 p.m. and a reception will follow.

Thornton died of Parkinson’s Disease complications over Christmas weekend. He was 74.
Thornton was Capistrano Valley’s boys basketball coach for 15 seasons and later coached the Dana Hills boys basketball team for seven seasons. He coached Capo Valley to two CIF-SS championships.
