Marina today announced its varsity football head caoch is longtime Long Beach Poly assistant Jeff Turley.
Turley has been Poly’s defensive coordinator since 2001. He also has coached at St. Anthony of Long Beach.
Marina earlier this year had named Kevin Oberlander as its varsity football head coach. Oberlander, varsity head coach at Western Christian of Upland, lacked the required teaching credential needed at Marina. Marina released Oberlander and restarted its search for a football coach.
George Pascoe resigned as Marina’s coach after the 2013 season, his fourth coaching the Vikings.
Marina was 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the Sunset League last season when the Vikings were outscored 440-169. They have not won a league game in nine years.
Turley will be a fulltime faculty member at Marina, where he will be a physical education instructor.
