Outlook: The Tartans have defeated three consecutive undefeated teams but three-loss Central Catholic looms as their most dangerous foe. The Raiders have not only won the past two Division IV state bowl games by a combined score of 102-30, they “played up” during the regular season. Central Catholic, Division IV champions in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, lost to Sac-Joaquin Division II runner-up St. Mary’s of Stockton, 18-13, in a nonleague game. The Raiders also fell to a pair of Division III contenders during league, including Division III champion Oakdale, 48-28. Oakdale fell in the Northern California Division II regional to undefeated Clayton Valley of Concord, 28-7. “They play at a pretty high level,” Mark Tennis, editor/publisher of CalHiSports.com, said of Central Catholic. “They’re probably better than Garden Grove. … They might be as good as Capistrano Valley.”
